Photo by David Menard. Some detailed notes about the aircraft - When the photo was shot in 1972 the aircraft was officially designated as a C-130E-II. The second batch of C-130-II aircraft comprised 10 stock C-130Eâs modified for the ABCCC mission (Airborne Command and Control Center). Ten C-130E-II aircraft (62-1791/1809/1815/1818/1820/1825/1832/ 1836/1857/1863) were modified to serve as Airborne Battlefield Command and Control Centers during the Vietnam War. The aircraft were fitted with a large module for battle staff and operations technicians, plus extensive communications upgrades. One aircraft (62-1815) was destroyed by enemy fire on the ground. Most of the aircraft were retrofitted with aerial refueling capability, and many are known to have been upgraded with T-56A-15 engines. All aircraft were redesignated EC-130Eâs in 1977.
