Here’s what information I can provide about Globe GC-1B “Swift” c/n 231. It was originally registered as N80828 in 1946. At some point it was exported to Canada where my father, Joe Wynen, bought it in non-airworthy condition during the winter of 1963-64. The plane was in Quebec, not far from where we lived in Quebec City. My dad got the plane flying within a few months. Later in 1964 our family moved to Oakville, Ontario (a western suburb of Toronto) and DXZ was kept out in the open at a grass airstrip known as the “Oakville Field”. As I recall there were only 5-6 aircraft based there, including another Swift, CF-IQW, owned by Aurthur (Art) Dinnen. My dad and Art flew together often during 1964-1967. My dad sold DXZ in May, 1967. At some point DXZ was bought by a John Lederman of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He owned DXZ in 1985 when it was deregistered in Canada. In 1987 the aircraft was reregistered as N302CB by a Walter Campbell of Ontario, California. In 1992, Campbell, flying in formation with another Swift as a flight of two, flew into a box Canyon. Both aircraft crashed.
