The Military Aircraft HM-1 began life as the Hawks Miller HM-1 racer in 1936. After a hard landing incident the aircraft was sold, then rebuilt and modified for racing as well as potential military use. It was variously known as the Miller HM-2, Miller Aircraft Co. MAC-1 and, finally, the Military Aircraft Co. HM-1. After racing once more in 1938, the aircraft was being demonstrated for potential military contracts when a wing separated. The pilot baled out but the aircraft was destroyed. Original photographer unknown.
