This aircraft was built for the RAF, being manufactured under a USAAF contract as an A-30A, serial 43-8445. It was assigned the RAF serial FW289 as a Baltimore Mk.5. It was one of two aircraft retained by Martin for use in developing the Baltimore Mk.6. However, the Mk.6 project was ended in April 1944 whereupon this aircraft was transferred to the US Navy. The Navy assigned a new serial number, but retained the USAAF nomenclature and designated it as simply an "A-30". It was assigned to the Naval Air Test Center and mainly used for the testing and evaluation of new airfoils. Final disposition unknown. U.S. Navy photo.
