This aircraft began as USAAF AT-7C 43-33553, then progressively became (through transfers, rebuilds and re-designations) a USN SNB-2C, SNB-3, SNB-5, UC-45J, and finally an Army C-45J. While in Army service it was modified to tricycle landing gear with a Volpar kit, becoming an NC-45J. After retirement it was transferred to the USDA, then sold to the Confederate Air Force.
