Delivered to the USAAF as C-47B Skytrain 43-48716 in September 1944 it flew it flew at least 25 Fully Combat-Operational Resupply Missions from bases at RAF Welford in England and Bretigny in France, including resupply during the Battle of the Bulge and Operation Varsity, where it towed two Waco CG-4A gliders full of troops. Post war it was converted as a VC-47D and passed to the US Army in April 1972, before being retired to the MASDC “Boneyard” at Tucson in November 1974. It was acquired by Lee County Mosquito Control District in July 1975 and registered N836M. After its Mosquito Control career was over it was sold in 2012 to the Air Heritage Aviation Museum located at Beaver County Airport, Beaver Falls, PA., where it has been fully restored to airworthiness in wartime markings and carries its original name “Luck of the Irish”.
