The aircraft was built as USAAF C-47A 42-108821 c/n 12058 but transferred to the US Navy as R4D-5 BuNo 17119. In 1952 it was rebuilt as an R4D-8 (C-117D from 1962) âSuper DC-3â with the new c/n 43378 and retired to the MASDC âBoneyardâ at Tucson in 1976. It was registered N886M to the Lee County Health Dept. in 1978 and exported to the Dominican Republic as HI-477, later HI-477CA, in 1986. In April 1989 it was seized by US Customs at Isla Grande Airport, PR., where it was damaged by Hurricane Hugo in September that year and its remains were last reported there in 2003.
