Originally built for the USAAF as 44-83868, and delivered on 06 Jul 1945. Transferred to the US Navy on 14 Jul 1945 as BuNo 77233, to become part of the first group of PB-1W aircraft. Retired from the Navy on 17 Jul 1956. After several intermediary owners, Butler Aircraft bought the aircraft in 1971 for use as an air tanker.
