Who would imagine that the cockpit of the "Miguel de Unamuno" would end up on a private property in Carcelén (north of the city of Quito). In the afternoon of November 9, 2007, this aircraft was operating Iberia flight 6463, and it landed on runway 35 at the old Quito's Airport in adverse weather conditions and too far from the touchdown zone. The giant A340-600 ended up 232 meters out of the end of runway 35 at a speed of 92 knots. The plane was damaged beyond economic repair and it was broken up in 2008. The cockpit was purchased to make a flight simulator but it disappeared for several years until now that was discovered at this location.
