The prototype Douglas DC-7C passenger plane arrives at Douglas Aircraft Co. hanger at Tucson Municipal Airport in 1956. The "Seven Seas" version had a longer fuselage, higher fuel capacity, and more powerful engines for trans-Atlantic travel. Thanks to longer wings and better engines, the DC-7C had a range of 5600 miles, enough to cross the Atlantic nonstop either way, which posed a problem for stopover airports such as Gander and Shannon. N70C was delivered as a prototype on 12-21-1955. It was sold to Panair do Brasil as PP-PDO, which crashed into a hill while trying to land at Recife in 1961.
