this aircraft was delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force in 1969 as 53-686 which it still wears on the port side in RSAF markings. It returned to the UK as ZF592 in 1986 and was acquired by the museum in 2002 where the starboard side has been repainted in 74 (Tiger) Squadron colours wearing the false registration XR768. The original XR768 (cn 95233) was written off in October 1974 when it crashed into the North Sea following an engine fire - the pilot fortunately survived. It should also be noted that another ex RSAF Lightning, 53-672 re-registered ZF580 on return to the UK in 1986 and now preserved at the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre, Newquay also wears the false registration XR768 (and tail code A) and in the same 74 squadron colours on both sides
