In 1977 a cyclone damaged Lamen Bay airfield and put it out of use. After repairs were carried out, this aircraft was used on a proving flight to check out the strip and is seen after landing there safely. The strip is constructed of crushed coral and is sited next to the beach and only about 2 metres above sea level. It is still in use today.
