By the time the photo was taken, N68MH was no longer flyable and was only on display. It was unable to be flown to safety during hurricane Ike which struck in September 2008, flooding the museum with 6 feet of seawater from the storm surge and damaging many aircraft. From the new owner Spring 2022 - I have just purchased the remains of N68MH and it is in a very sad state, but I hope to restore it to flying condition. The museum had mis-identified it as 42-14999, but the true USAAF serial number, which I found in the original CAA certification paperwork, is 42-14836. Although registered as 1039, the msn is actually 76-039.
