Neither existing MA registration, nor this particular aircraft has ever flew in MALEV livery. After the first years of successful running of the Ferihegy open air museum next to Terminal 2, it came to know that the very reliable workhorse of the late MALEV fleet, the IL-14 type is very much missing from the collection. Mostly by the keen and repeated initiation of Mr. Gyula Kertesz and his close colleagues from the Pest County Machine Factory, several attempts were made to obtain a non-airworthy IL-14 from the Soviet Union. Two IL-14s were donated free by Moscow, however after the gentle disassemble of those planes, the surface transportation of the fuselage always failed. The third attempt was with a still airworthy one, which was manufactured in 1957 for the Air Force of the Soviet Union. This aircraft flew to Hungary on December 8 1987, on the Mirgorod – Starokonstantinov – Lvov – Kunmadaras and Tokol route with her original 04 RED tail number. Ownership to the People's Army of the People's Republic of Hungary. Ferry-flew over to Ferihegy Airport December 8 and stored on the technical apron for a long time with large red star on the fin. Donated to the Museum of Transportation February 23 1989. In 1991 towed to her present place. In Autumn 2009 restoration and re-painting job is started with the overdue paint collection of Aeroplex. HA-MAL is now beautiful and their engines are operative. Dedicated to Mr. Endre Zsaludek.
