Here comes the “foremother”, the prototype of the Boeing 737s. First flight April 9 1967 with test captain Bryen Wygle and Lew Wallick at the commands. Both pioneer later were member of the maiden flight of the Boeing 747 prototype as well. This time the 737 wore Boeing N73700 test registration. July 26 1973 to NASA as a heavily modified research and experimental aircraft, with N515NA registration. Of the total of 3.297 flying hours, she accumulated 979 in tests. September 20 1997 retired from NASA and donated to the Museum of Flight. Last of her 33 minutes flight was from Moses Lake, Washington, to Boeing Field, Seattle September 21 2003, where she has been preserved and towed to permanent open display.
