This Hurricane is a newcomer to Flying Legends. She was part of the third production batch of 544 aircraft, the batch including 44 attrition replacement aircraft. Built by Hawker Aircraft Limited, at Kingston, Brooklands, and Langley, under Contract 962371/38. The majority of these aircraft served with RAF squadrons during the Battle Of France, and the Battle Of Britain. This particular one was originally a Mk. I, and her RAF career came to a halt after crashing near Prestwick on the 21st July 1940. Rebuilt as a Mk. IIa and acquiring a new serial DR393 she was delivered to the Soviet Air Force in May 1941, serving for about two years before again crashing near Murmansk, Russia in 1943. The hulk was eventually restored as a Mk. IIc in the UK from 1992 to 1995. She was transferred to New Zealand in 1995, and acquired by the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum in Wanaka, New Zealand. Her first flight after restoration occurred in Christchurch on the 12th January 2000 having been allocated the registration ZK-TPK. She was put up for sale in 2009 and was acquired by Jan Friso Roozen who had the aircraft shipped to France. She is the only Hurricane currently operating in mainland Europe.
