The first 16 AB-206 delivered to the Italian Army were AB.206A versions featuring short skids. They were known as 'bassotti', a play on words, as 'basso' means low and a 'bassotto' is a short legged basset hound. This example undergoing maintenance is from the 23° gruppo squadroni ERI 'Eridano', whose badge is on the fin and the unit STANAG, 3061 on a blue background, is on the nose. Last known in storage at Bracciano in 2012.
