This Harvest Air PA-25 Pawnee ditched into Sandown Bay on 15th July 1979 whilst oil-dispersal spraying. It ditched in Whitecliff Bay at the very tip of the white cliffs. The wheels clipped the rocks under water and the plane flipped over onto the canopy. The pilot was trapped underwater for a while on the last ridge of rocks. A fisherman jumped in to help save the pilot and the coastguard stopped a little boy from going to look. The plane was recovered to Whitecliff bay beach and stayed there for several days before being finally removed.
