This replica built and scaled from original photos of an aircraft built by a local man, Bert Pither, in 1910 and which he claims to have flown along the beach near Invercargill. This has been flown 14 times since its completion in 2004. The materials used are as near as possible to the original and the weight and HP of the engine are identical. Mr Pither was a professional cyclist and an engineer, who also manufactured engines. He never flew again (that there is any record of) and left NZ to live in Australia, where he died, shortly after his historic flight. [Information taken from the Croydon Aviation Heritage Trust]
