The sole DC-4E first flew on 7 June 1938. Loaned to UAL in 1939 for airline trials but found to be too large and complex for the day. Sold to Japan in late 1939. Obtained from UAL 50 years ago. Pictured Flying over Washington D.C. looking south with Bolling AFB, Potomac and Anacostia rivers confluence in the background and Hains Point just over the cockpit.
