On take-off ASI failed, abortive action taken too late, failed to become airborne, arrester hook ripped out by CHAG, pilot ejected, aircraft smashed through perimeter fence, over main road and over cliff top into Solent, 01-11-72. Pilot; Lt M Sharp suffered slight injuries. It remained in the water for two days before being salvaged by a floating crane on 03-11-72 and transported to AIU Lee via Foxbury Point, Fleetlands. MoD(PE), Farnborough by road 27-03-73 for weapon firing trials. Surplus to RN & RAF requirements, allocated for GIA use 12-04-73. Recovered by FAA 15-04-73. SOC RN 28-09-73. To UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), establishment, Culham, Oxfordshire. Forward part of fuselage 07-02 used for lightning strike experiments. To Benson, 10-06-07 where the Nose section was obtained by Cholsey based Dave Webb. Moved to Kemble 25-06-07. Cockpit restored. Sighted at Benson, 16-11-08 and at Chiltern Park 30-07-11. Displayed at Al Ain air show. By May 2018 now on permanent loan to the Hovercraft Museum.
