This photograph shows the eastern parking stands (21-24) at London City. In the foreground is BA CityFlyer Embraer 190-100SR G-LCYM, with Embraer 170-100STD G-LCYE next in line. In the background is Airbus A318 G-EUNB of the British Airways mainline fleet on Stand 23, with her sister G-EUNA on stand 24. The A318s are specially modified for operating into London City with it's 5.5° glideslope. The overhead panel on the flightdeck has a steep approach switch. Arming the switch puts the aircraft into 'steep approach mode', in this mode speed brakes 3 and 4 deploy to 30°, at around 85ft they retract automatically to 8°, the ground spoilers are armed to deploy at touchdown. There are also some changes to the control laws whilst flying in this mode and approach speed is maintained at 8 knots over VREF (target threshold speed). Based on the A318 Elite, the corporate jet version of the standard A318, the aircraft are configured with only 32 all business class seats and operate the twice daily London City-New York JFK service via Shannon.
