NR946 had been built by Blackburn Aircraft at Sherburn-in-Elmet in July 1944. It had no squadron service and was acquired by Fairey Aviation. After storage at Ringway for many years, it was handed over to the airport fire service in August 1954 with the lamentable results shown.
