Photographed taxying onto Stand 5 at Exeter this MD-90 was originally delivered to SAS as SE-DMG on the 2nd December 1996 and was named 'Hervor Viking' with that airline. She was placed into storage in November 2005 before being delivered to Hello on the 7th May 2006. She is one of three MD-90s operated by the Swiss charter airline, and is usually seen flying to holiday destinations in the Mediterranean and North Africa. The MD-90 is basically an updated version of the MD-88 but powered by more powerful, quieter and fuel efficient IAE V2500 engines instead of the earlier JT8Ds. Due to the merger between Boeing and McDonnell Douglas in 1997 and the huge market share held by the 737, the MD-90 had the shortest production run of the DC-9 family with only 116 airframes being produced, the last one rolling out of the factory at Long Beach, California in 2000. Despite the 'Boeing MD-90' titles on the engine cowlings she is definately a McDonnell Douglas product, having made her first flight on the 1st October 1996, the year before the two companies merged.
