Photographed in the static display at Air Fete 92. This Tornado is from Marinefliegergeschwader 1 which was based at Jagel. MFG-1 was the first Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) unit to equip with the Tornado, starting their conversion onto the type in 1982. After approximately one year all forty-eight aircraft for the unit had been delivered. Following the reunification of Germany in 1990, and with the reduced level of threat from the East, the German military budgets were drastically cut. MFG-1 was disbanded on the 31st December 1993 and its remaining Tornados transferred to MFG-2 and the re-established AG- (Reconnaissance Wing)51 of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), who also took over Jagel airbase. MFG-2 was disbanded at Tarp/Eggebek on the 9th August 2005 after 46 years of service, and over 350,000 flying hours. All of the Tornados were then transferred to Luftwaffe units.
