Photographed from the press enclosure just after completing her display at Air Fete 92, this F-4 is a 74 Squadron jet, but wears dual 74 and 56 Squadron markings. One of the last two RAF display Phantoms (the other was XT914) crewed by Squadron Leader Archie Liggatt and Flight Lieutenant (now Wing Commander) Mark Mainwairing. 74 Squadron was the last RAF F-4 Squadron disbanding in October 1992. This particular Phantom was delivered to the RAF on the 8th December 1968 and served with 228OCU, 17, 31, and 74 Squadrons during her career. She made her last flight on the 28th October 1992 and was then briefly used as a battle damage repair airframe before being scrapped the following year. Only a few British F-4s survive today, most being unceremoniously scrapped, a sad end for such a popular and long-serving fighter.
