Designed by Claudius Dornier the son of the founder of Dornier this amphibian composite plane was built using the wings of a Dornier Do 27 which was enlarged with a new center part built by Wolf Hirth, the hull of glassfibre-reinforced plastic was built by Dornier personnel at the plant of caravan builder Erwin Hymer, and the landing gear was built by Herbert Gomolzig Flugzeugbau nearly all well known names in the aviation industry. This was seen here being constructed in the Lufthansa facility. This aircraft was written off in a wheels down accident when it tried to land on water at Lake Constance on 24-07-1985. The registration was transferred to the modified second prototype which was WFU at Oberpfaffenhofen~D in 1991.
