Photographed in the static display during Air Tournament International 92 at Boscombe. This Greyhound was operated by VR-24 based at NAS Sigonella, Sicily. The primary mission of the unit was to support the US Navy 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean and when called upon, other US Naval forces operating in other parts of the world. VR-24 and its detachments delivered freight, mail, and personnel to US and NATO bases and to US Navy carriers at sea, for carrier operations the mission is known as Carrier-On-deck-delivery (COD). VR-24 was unofficially known as the 'world's biggest little airline' and prided itself in being able to deliver 'anything, anytime, anywhere'. The unit was officially decommissioned on the 31st March 1993 after 46 years of continual operation.
