"RMA Centaurus" on finals to Runway 06 whilst operating BOAC's inaugural schedule from NY Idlewild to Manchester. The eastbound leg was flown nonstop, but westbound flights from the UK called at Gander to refuel, until the DC-7C arrived on the scene in late 1956.
