Aeronautica Militare Tornado IDS of 36° Stormo based at Gioia del Colle. During the first Gulf War, 36° Stormo's 156° Gruppo deployed a number of Tornado IDS aircraft together with Tornados from 6° Stormo and 50° Stormo to Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates as part of 'Operation Locusta'. The combined Aeronautica Militare Tornados flew a total of 226 missions tasked mainly in low-level counter-air missions against Iraqi airfields.
