This 'Black Cats' Jag of 54 Squadron wears desert camoflage in the static at IAT 93. Originally she was intended to be XY111 but this range wasn't taken up, she made her first flight on the 18th March 1976 and was delivered on the 7th April of that year. She was destroyed on the 27th October 2000, crashing five miles north-east of Dumfries whilst on a low-level training mission. The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Brendan "Torch" Clarke of the Royal New Zealand Air Force flying with the RAF's 6 Squadron at the time, hit a flock of seagulls which flamed out both engines. Happily Clarke ejected safely after steering the aircraft away from anything that looked habitable.
