First Super VC10 to fly from Brooklands Weybridge on 7th May 1964. Incorporating modifications to wings and engine nacelles after extensive flight test programme on Standard VC10 G-ARTA due to higher drag encountered than design criterior expectations. First attempted Super VC10 tropical trials to Johannesburg on 27th November 1964, aborted due accident at Khartoum due brake failure on 29th November 1964. (see vc10.net Trials & tribulations for story). Bought by MoD in April 1981 for conversion to tanker standard at BAE Filton, from where it first flew as a K4 in October 1994. Broken up at St Athan September 2006.
