Photographed during Helifest 91, this Dauphin was the London Air Ambulance at the time. The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) began operating in 1989 from a temporary base at Biggin Hill Airport, the following year the service was operating from a helipad at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where it still operates from today. While in service in London G-HEMS completed some 37,500 take-offs and landings and became a familiar sight in the skies over the capital. She was replaced in October 2000 by an MD902 Explorer G-EHMS after twelve years of service. Today she's operated as the Great North Air Ambulance for Cumbria by PLM Dollar Group Ltd. Built in 1982 she was previously registered in Barbados as 8P-BHD.
