When 249 took over the B6 Canberras from the disbanded 139 Sqdn, the new OC, the late S/L Doug Barfoot had been a flight commander on 139. He wanted 249 renumbered 139 but the powers that be had that number slated to be reformed as a Victor unit. So DB was allowed to compromise by using the 139 tailfin insignia design but repainting it in yellow (blue and yellow being the traditional 249 colours) instead of the 139 Sqdn red. So unfortunately we lost the tip tank assegai markings as carried by the B2 Canberras. Alas, I had never got around to photographing those.
