Photographed from the Queen's Building on a typically smoggy Heathrow day, this 747SP was originally delivered to Pan Am on the 17th May 1976 as N531PA named 'Clipper Liberty Bell' but was later re-named 'Clipper Freedom'. She was sold to United on the 12th February 1986 and was operated by them until the 1st December 1995 when she was retired and ferried to Ardmore, Oklahoma where she was scrapped in early 1998. When retired she had flown a total of 78442 hours and 10366 cycles. Interestingly, part of the fuselage was used as the prototype for the SOFIA-Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy telescope.
