Displaying a single red star on the air intake splitter plate shows that this Phantom is a Mig killer. Using the callsign 'Ballot 01' she downed a Mig-17 with a AIM-9 Sidewinder on the 20 May 1967 crewed by Major Phillip P. Combies (Aircraft Commander) and 1Lt. Daniel L. Lafferty of the 433 TFS/8 TFW based at Ubon RTAFB, Thailand during the Vietnam War. This immaculate Phantom hadn't long been out of the paint shop when I was lucky enough to photograph her. She's displayed at Pima courtesy of the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
