The military version of the DC-6, this Liftmaster was the VIP transport variant. She is part of Pima's collection of ex-Presidential aircraft. She last served with the 89th Military Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB, Maryland. This aircraft transported President's John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson as the official 'Air Force One' aircraft. When the faster, jet-powered and more luxurious VC-137s arrived however, she was relegated to only flying missions to smaller airports with shorter runways and later still, only flying lower ranking VIPs. In this photograph she wears the rather generic colour scheme from when she was retired. She has since been restored and repainted in the turquoise and white colours of the 1254th Air Transport (Special Missions) Wing from when she fulfilled the 'Air Force One' mission. She is displayed at Pima courtesy of the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
