This unusual aeroplane evolved out of Northrop's first post-war civil design, the N-23 Pioneer. This military version was ordered by the USAF as a STOL tactical transport (YC-125A) and for Arctic Rescue work (YC-125B). This Raider is one of thirteen YC-125As built, she was formerly 48-0636 and was built in 1950. They were soon found to be underpowered and were withdrawn from service. They were relegated to the role of ground instructional airframes at Sheppard AFB, Texas before being declared surplus in 1955. Most were purchased by Frank Ambrose and were sold on to bush operators in South and Central America. This particular aircraft became N2773B on the US civil register before being sold to Triplay y Maderas de Durango in Mexico as XB-GEY. She is one of only two known survivors and was donated to the Pima Air and Space Museum by Robert A. Gallaher.
