The B-57E was the target-tug version of the Martin built Canberra. There were 68 of this version constructed and it was the first aircraft in the U.S. inventory specifically built for towing aerial targets. The 'E' model was essentially a specialized version of the B-57C with the equipment associated with the bombing mission removed and target towing equipment installed instead. The bomb bay was used to house four cable drums and an air-driven turbine used to turn the cable drums. Each drum held approximately 6,000 feet of 3/16-inch thick tow cable. This particular B-57E was formerly used by the 363rd TRW based at Shaw AFB, South Carolina. She is displayed at Pima courtesy of the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
