This Seastar is one of only two of the 150 built that is known to survive. Originally designated the T2V-1 the T-1A began as a Lockheed funded project to build a jet powered trainer for the US Navy. Based on the T-33, the T-1A had a more powerful Allison J33-A-16A turbojet, a redesigned cockpit with a raised rear seat for the instructor and other changes to strengthen the airframe and undercarriage for use on aircraft carriers. Entering service in 1957 the Seastar had a relatively short career as a trainer (being replaced by the T-2 Buckeye), most were quickly relegated to support roles but some remained in limited service into the 1970s. This one wears the markings of Quonset Point NAS, Rhode Island and is displayed at Pima courtesy of the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
