Photographed taxying at Flying Legends 2006 this Hurricane was built in 1942 by the Canadian Car and Foundry Company in Montreal and was one of the 1,451 Hurricanes built by them under licence. Most of these saw service in the UK or Russia but this one remained in Canada with the Royal Canadian Air Force as '5589' and was issued to a Coastal Defense Squadron to protect allied shipping in Canadian waters. She was subsequently issued to a training squadron. The remains of the airframe were found and salvaged in 1970 by J. Arnold of Ontario who later sold the aircraft to H. Wherreat of Saskatchewan. In February 1988 Autokraft bought the aircraft and she was shipped to Brooklands where she was restored over a period of seven years taking over 40,000 man hours of work. She was then sold to the Real Aeroplane Company who operated her in this black night-fighter scheme representing a Hurricane of 87 Squadron. She was then sold again to Tom Blair's Spitfire Ltd and was operated in the markings of BD707 AE-C of 402 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force. Tragically she was destroyed in a flying accident at the 2007 RAFA airshow at Shoreham.
