Photographed taxying in at Flying Legends 2008, this MkXVI was built at Castle Bromwich and delivered to 6MU on 11 May 1945 prior to service with 695 Squadron. After World War II she served with 2 CAACU from 31 August 1951 at Exeter before becoming a display airframe with 610 Squadron at Hooten Park. From there she was allocated to 30MU at RAF Sealand on 31 January 1967 and displayed outside the officers mess before being used in the 1968 film 'The Battle of Britain'. She then became the gate guard at RAF Sealand until June 1988. Restored at Audley End she made her first post restoration flight on 10 November 1992 before being sold to Karel Bos. She suffered a landing accident at Duxford on 11 May 2001 causing damage to the undercarriage, port wing and the propellor. She was repaired and flew again on 27 May 2002. She was sold in 2005 to Tom Blair, operated by Spitfire Ltd and maintained by the Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford.
