The Shuttleworth Trust's Gloster Gladiator I was built by the Gloster Aircraft Co. at Hucclecote, Gloucester in 1937 and was the last Gladiator I to come off the production line. She was allocated the serial L8032 and was first posted to No 2 Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit and used to assist in the training of anti-aircraft gunners. In February 1948 Gloster bought her and another Gladiator (N5903, now with the Fighter Collection and registered as G-GLAD) from the Air Ministry. In 1951 she was made airworthy and was registered G-AMRK on 13 June 1952. She was operated by Gloster's until 1960 painted as âK8032' in 72 Squadron markings, she was then presented to the Shuttleworth Collection on 7 November 1960. She is seen here in the markings of the Royal Norwegian Army Air Force. The real '423' was unfortunately unserviceable on 9 April 1940 when Norway was attacked and invaded by Germany. The aircaft was destroyed on the ground at Oslo-Fornebu the same day.
