You are only able to fully appreciate the scale of AMARC and the sheer numbers of aircraft stored there from the air. A rented Cessna enabled this photograph to be taken showing some of the B-52s stored at AMARC back in 1993. These Cold War warriers would later be chopped into pieces by a crane controlled guillotine. Their dismembered parts would then be left in the open to be photographed by orbiting Russian reconaissance satellites to prove compliance with the SALT II (Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty). Of note is NB-52E 56-0632 in the centre of the picture (red nose and tail). She was the the second B-52E built (C/N 17315) and was used for special test programs, particularly for stability and control testing. She was equipped with a series of forward canards and in this configuration became a Control Configured Vehicle (CCV) demonstrator. Unfortunately this unique aircraft didn't survive AMARC and was scrapped like her many sisters.
