Built as an A3D-2 and delivered in May 1958. She was converted by NARF Alameda to KA-3B configuration in July 1967 and then to EKA-3B configuration in June 1968. She was retired in 1982, stored at AMARC from April of that year and allocated the Inventory Code AN2A0082. As of March 2009 there were still fifteen A-3s stored at AMARC, 142632 isn't one of them. Even when this photograph was taken it looked like it was the beginning of the end for this old 'Whale'.
