Built in 1960, this 707 was delivered to Pan Am as N730PA "Clipper Bald Eagle". In 1970 she was bought by Donaldson International Airways and registered G-AYXR but was repossessed by Pan Am when Donaldson went bankrupt. British Midland bought her in September 1975. She was leased out to many other airlines including Syrian, Tunis, Kuwait, Kenyan, Dan-Air and PIA. Her final operator was General Electric who used her as a flying test-bed for the GE/SNECMA CFM56 engine seen here on the number 2 pylon. She was not the first 707 to wear the registration N707GE. It was previously worn by former Pan Am 707-321B, c/n 18840 in 1982-1983 and was then scrapped at Davis Montham. 17608 was itself scrapped at Mojave in 2003. This photograph was taken in late 1992.
