On 19th September 1996, while allocated to 323 Squadron RNLAF, J-139 was involved in a mid-air collision over the Portland Exercise Areas with Sea Harrier F/A.2 ZD580/710 of 899 NAS. Both aircraft recovered safely to RNAS Yeovilton with the F-16 losing part of the port stabiliser and the Sea Harrier losing her radome. Following assessment and repair she carried on in service until 2005. Following refurbishment went to the Chilean AF as 731 in 2007.
