Originally designated a C-54B for the United States Army Air Force as 44-9020 in 1944. She was transferred to the US Navy as Bu.No. 90393 and designated a R5D-2 then successively redesignated R5D-2F, R5D-2Z, and then VC-54P. In civilian life she was registered to Biegert Aviation as N44908 and stored at Chandler Memorial for many years and used as a source of spare parts.
