Originally designated a C-54D for the United States Army Air Force as 42-72496. She was transferred to the US Navy as Bu.No. 56493 and designated a R5D-3. Redesignated a C-54Q in 1962 she was operated in civilian life by Biegert Aviation as N44910 before being sold in 1997 to Brooks Fuel Inc. Stored at Chandler, Arizona for many years she had her entire tail section cut off and shipped to California to be used in the repair of a previously damaged C-54 firebomber.
