Beautiful DC-7C firebomber basking in the Arizona sunlight. Designed to compete with Lockheed's L1049G "Super G" Constellation for TWA, Pan American required an aircraft that could fly the Atlantic non-stop, even westbound. Douglas designed the -7C with a fuselage stretched by 42 inches, an increased wingspan which allowed for placing the massive Wright R-3350 radial engines further away from the cabin, thus lessening noise and vibration. The -7C was the most numerous version of the DC-7 series with a total of 121 built. This particular machine is ex-BOAC G-AOIB, it was delivered to them in November 1956. More recently it has been operated by Basaer in Spain as EC-GGB.
